Rummage & garage sales, Hudson to Longville

Ten towns, Thursday August 6, roughly 4½–5 hours of driving before a single stop. Re-checked the night before you leave — and the picture has changed completely. Thursday is no longer empty.

Thursday is back on — drive as planned

Monday's verdict on this page was that nothing ran on Thursday anywhere near this route and you should move the trip to Friday. That is now wrong, and I'm retracting it. Three Thursday sales have posted in the two days since, and one of them opens at 9am in Hudson before you've even pulled out.

Garage Sale Titans, 592 Outpost Cir in Hudson — Thu–Sat 9–3, a warehouse-style sale with 113 photos posted, 59 of them added in the last day. Antiques, Tools & Decor from The Shore — Thu–Sat 9–4 in White Bear Township, minutes off I-35E on the Hudson–North Branch leg. And the Crow Wing Lake neighborhood sales — an entire lake road of them, Thu–Sat 8–5, about forty minutes west of Crosby.

Two of the three cost you almost nothing. Hudson is your starting line and White Bear Township is barely a detour, so build the morning around them and leave a little earlier than planned. Fort Ripley is the only real decision on the list — roughly 90 minutes round trip out of Crosby, but it's the one multi-property sale of the week. Milaca's estate sale still opens Friday, so that one you'll drive past a day early no matter what you do.

Monday's empty result was a timing artifact, exactly as suspected. This page predicted that most August 6–8 listings wouldn't exist until Tuesday through Thursday. All four sales above were posted after that Monday search — the Crow Wing Lake ad went up August 4. Anything still unposted will surface Thursday morning, so give the sources below one last look over coffee.

Friday and Saturday

Still the busier half of the week — and Milaca is the frustrating one.

Still no city-wide sale on your corridor. Gilbert on the Iron Range is new since Monday — 45-plus houses, Fri–Sat Aug 7–8, list available at Berta's Boutique — but it's roughly two hours northeast of Remer and a day late. Minnesota's other August city-wides are St. Michael (Aug 5–8, west metro), Delano (Aug 13–15), Chisago City (Aug 20–23, near North Branch but two weeks out) and Grand Meadow (Aug 21–23, southern Minnesota). Nothing on route to plan around.

One listing dropped off. The Park Rapids sale at 20731 Fenwick Cir (Aug 5–7) that appeared here Monday is no longer in the classifieds feed. It may simply have expired from the listing window, but since it can't be re-confirmed it's off this page — don't drive to it.

How to play the day

Front-load the southern half. Sale density tracks population, and this route falls off a cliff after Milaca:

  • North Branch (~11k), Cambridge (~9k), Princeton (~5k) — real suburban-style garage sale volume, indexed on Minneapolis Craigslist. Best odds of a same-day sale appearing Thursday morning.
  • Milaca (~3k), Onamia (~900), Garrison (~200) — thin and occasional
  • Crosby (~2k), Emily (~843), Remer (~370), Longville (~180) — lake country. Sales here are Facebook-only and roadside-sign-only; almost nothing reaches a searchable website.

Thursday is opening day up north, which is exactly what the Crow Wing Lake ad confirms. Lake-country sales run Thursday through Saturday to catch weekend cabin traffic, so what you find Thursday will be at its best picking, not its last.

Roadside signs beat the internet on MN-6 between Crosby and Remer. Nothing in that stretch is advertised online. Drive it with your eyes open.

Check these Thursday morning

Ranked by how much I'd trust them for this corridor. All open in a new tab.

  1. Forum Communications classifieds — garage sales The print-classifieds feed behind the Brainerd Dispatch, the Pine & Lakes Echo Journal and the Echoland Shopper — the papers lake-country people actually advertise in. Real dated ads with addresses. The Crow Wing Lake, Park Rapids, Fergus Falls and Bemidji sales all came from here.
  2. EstateSales.net — Hudson  · Brainerd  · Cambridge Estate sales are a separate category from garage sales — bigger inventory, better goods, and reliably posted in advance. Both Hudson-area Thursday sales came from here. Turn on email alerts and it will tell you when something lands near the route.
  3. Facebook Where most small-town Minnesota rummage sales actually live, and unreachable by any tool without your login. Start with the Brainerd Area Garage Sale group and Marketplace → Garage Sale, then search Mille Lacs Area Buy Sell Trade, Isanti County Garage Sales, Crosby-Ironton Buy Sell Trade and Cass County / Longville Buy Sell Trade. Sort by newest; re-center Marketplace on Cambridge too, 40-mile radius.
  4. Craigslist Renders fine in a real browser — it returns an empty page to automated tools, which is why I couldn't read it. Minneapolis covers North Branch, Cambridge and Princeton — filter by town or you'll drown in metro sales. Brainerd covers Milaca north to Longville.
  5. HometownSource  · MessageMedia The ECM, Mille Lacs Messenger and Aitkin Independent Age papers — Cambridge, Princeton, Isanti, Milaca, Onamia, Aitkin. Both rate-limited me; they load normally from a browser.
  6. GarageSaleFinder — Brainerd  · GSALR Brainerd  · GSALR Milaca Map-based, decent coverage, both blocked my requests but work in a browser.
  7. Thrifty Minnesota — city-wide sales list Updated through the season; the page says it's a work in progress.

Backup — stores open Thursday

For the long stretches between sales, these are open and dependable. Directory hours go stale fast in small towns: call ahead for anything you'd detour for.

The one worth building the drive around — The Hairy Mosquito, 21287 US-169, Milaca. Thu–Sun 10–5, seasonal April–October, (320) 983-5240. Directly on your road, zero detour, and Thursday is one of only four days it opens. Three rooms of antiques, a barn of furniture, a second barn of reclaimed barnwood, a back pasture with still more, plus tools, local art and an ice cream shoppe. It also softens the blow of driving past Milaca's estate sale a day early. Hours and location.

Stale listing to ignore. Hallett Antique Emporium is still listed at 28 W Main St, Crosby — it moved to Aitkin in November 2022 after nearly thirty years in town. It's now at 10 4th St SE, Aitkin, Mon–Sat 9:30–5, about 20–30 minutes off your route. Don't go hunting for it in Crosby.

Tossed & Found Boutique5076 MN-84 · website

Vintage and antiques, small electronics, hand tools, indoor and outdoor furniture, sporting goods, puzzles, games, craft supplies, holiday décor. Reviews consistently call it clean, well organised and well priced. Confirm shopping hours.

Thin spots. Emily (population 843) has one confirmable second-hand-adjacent business, Emily's Used Books — treat it as a drive-through. Onamia also has Cripple Creek Antiques, 28353 US-169, hours unconfirmed, 763-360-2629. Garrison also has Mille Lacs Curio, but that's retail rather than second-hand. And "Go Green Thrift" and "Toby's Thrift" turn up in Remer searches while actually sitting in Grand Rapids and Aitkin.
